Intent: why do we teach what we teach?

Our reason for our passion to teach MFL is twofold:  The first is to ensure our pupils acquire a formal qualification that is valuable and relevant.  The second is to equip our pupils  with an important life skill to make them effective communicators and contributors to their own happy and prosperous futures in the 21st century.

Implementation: how do we teach what we teach?

The MFL team employs a wide range of pedagogical approaches in their teaching based on the needs of the students in their care as well the current curriculum requirements.  This ranges from a communicative approach to traditional grammar-translation methods.   We also include a focus on the cultural perspectives of our languages.  Our aim, in this way is to build communicative confidence in our students so that they can use language effectively and pursue their studies further.

Impact: how do we know what pupils have learnt and how well they have learnt it?

Our assessments are devised to not only replicate the exam style but also to demonstrate clear progression so that students can measure their own success and confidence in communication and seek to improve at every stage.  Homework is learning focused with grammar drills to foster spontaneous use of language.
