Student Support and Pastoral Care
From the time they start at The Elmgreen School each student is known and cared for through a secure framework of support.
Year Teams and Colleges
Students are supported both academically and pastorally through the horizontal year team structure from Years 7-13. Each year group is supported by a team of tutors and led by a Head of Year.
In addition, there are three communities of Schools for each of the Key Stages, 3, 4 and 5 which is led by an Assistant Headteacher and Head of School. These smaller Schools within the larger School help ease the transition between each Key Stage.
Within the whole school there are four Colleges: Besant, James, Szabo and Wilberforce. Each College is named after a prominent past Lambeth resident. Each College is made up of students from Years 7 – 13.
Attainment and Progress
Year team staff are responsible for the attendance, attitude to learning and, most importantly, the academic attainment and progress of each student in their care. Each Year has its own distinctive identity, but all years are bound together under ‘The Elmgreen Way’, our code of conduct.
For families and students the tutor is always the first point of contact to celebrate success and share information. The tutor will get to know your child’s talents, interests, skills and needs and will ensure you and your child feel supported at the school. Tutors can arrange contact for families with subject teaching staff whenever required.
If there are any concerns the school will contact families at an early stage. Similarly families are able to contact the tutor through the Learning Planner or by telephone if they have any concerns.
