The Parent Promoters’ Foundation
The Parent Promoters’ Foundation is the body that worked with Lambeth Council and the school staff to establish The Elmgreen School – Britain’s first “Parent-Promoted School”. Initially it was a group of local parents and carers working together informally. It is now a registered Charity with a board of directors/trustees and over 800 members, all of whom are local parents or carers or former Elmgreen students who are over 18 years old.
The Foundation Body of the school
The members of the PPF appoint 5 of themselves to be the school’s Foundation Governors. They work with Elmgreen’s other governors to set the school’s strategic direction and to ensure that it reflects the founding ethos.
The PPF is also one of the founding members of the Great North Wood Education Trust – (incorporating Elmgreen and Rosendale Schools) and one of the PPF directors also serves on the board of GNWET trustees.
The PPF believes that:
- all children deserve an excellent local school
- parents should have the opportunity to be involved in their children’s education
- The Elmgreen School should be at the heart of the local community
Working with the school and local communities
Parents and carers are a vital part of the school community. The PPF organises activities and briefings to keep families in touch and facilitate the Parents and Carers Council meetings each term.
From time to time, the PPF offer a programme of events at which parents and carers can exchange ideas and experiences and learn from a range of expert speakers. Subjects covered so far include: Making the most of the teenage years; Inspiring Success; and Keeping safe on the internet.
Supporting the development of all students
Many PPF members share their knowledge and contacts by joining our Skills Database – offering to enhance students’ learning by widening their horizons and enabling them to make links with the wider community. Our annual Skills Bureau event brings Year 9 pupils together with parents who give a ‘taster’ of the world of work – from building to baking, nursing to composing, from law to town planning, art to drama.
Supporting and rewarding achievement
The PPF holds regular fund-raising events to raise money to support the school and provides funding for the PPF award prizes given each year to the 4 students who have demonstrated exceptional work in the local community.
Keeping in touch
The PPF’s regular email newsletter keeps parents and carers up to date with national and local education news.
