Welcome

Given its current success, the considerable progress that has been made and the quality of leadership and management at all levels, the school has an outstanding capacity for further improvement.” Ofsted April 2009

The Elmgreen School is an 11-18 specialist co-educational Humanities College serving the local community. It is unique in being the first parent promoted school in England. It opened in September 2007 to its first cohort of 180 students. It is now housed in a brand new building on Elmcourt Road with extensive modern facilities. In 2011 it will welcome its fifth intake of 180 students, and in 2012 it will open its sixth form provision.

Our aim is to be a successful and inclusive school that works in close partnership with families and the community to achieve the best for our young people irrespective of gender, race or social background. We expect our students to achieve and fulfil their potential and receive a better education here than they would at any other establishment. We are working tirelessly to secure this aim for our community.

We provide an environment where every individual is highly valued and where they in turn care for others, the school and the community. This is ‘The Elmgreen Way’ which provides the direction for our happy, supportive and orderly environment where students, families, staff and governors are committed to the highest standards in everything that they do.

All students have the right to a high quality education that equips them with the qualifications they need to progress to college, university or their chosen career.  Every decision we take to create our successful school comes from a firmly held staff belief that if something is not good enough for our own children, then it isn't good enough for anyone else's.  So we will always be working hard to ensure the school is the best that it can be. We have created a flexible and personalised curriculum that enables all students to find an appropriate pathway tailored to their individual needs so that they can be successful during their time here and beyond.

I hope that you find our website useful and informative and that the contents help you catch something of what it means to be connected to The Elmgreen School. Visitors are always welcome. Please contact the school to make an appointment to see the school and the way that our young people are progressing.

  • Lots happening in Key Stage 4

I had a great day yesterday with our Upper School students.  The day started with a Year 11 Assembly about the 'Final Countdown' (with appropriate music) to GCSE results.  I am very proud of our Year 11s and what they have achieved since they started the school with us.  We talked together yesterday about what we still need to do to make sure they get the results they deserve.  I know they will succeed.  I spent some time later in the day in our Upper School Option class...

  • Christmas Music Concert

Thanks to everyone involved in arranging a wonderful Christmas Music Concert on Tuesday evening.  It was great to see a wide range of performances from all the different year groups.  I was so impressed by the high standard set and it is always great to see the students work together so well to creat a memorable event.  Thanks to all.
