Tea, Toast and a Tour - 20 January
This is a chance for you to tour the school and visit lessons in small groups of 6-8 whilst learning is taking place, with the tour being led by senior members of staff.
You will be able to see different kinds of learning and teaching take place across all subjects and years – it may be especially interesting for you to visit KS4 lessons where the students will be working in their Option subjects in mixed classes of Year 10 and Year 11.
The event will begin by 8.15 in the Partnership room at the front of the school, with tea/coffee and some light breakfast. You can then visit lessons in any area of the school. We would anticipate those tours to be around 45 minutes, but there is flexibility according to your timings.
Please email admin@the-elmgreen-school.org.uk FAO Ms Nolan if you want to join us!

PPF Skills Bureau Tuesday 7th February 2012
Broadening horizons, challenging stereotypes
Could you – or someone you know - spare 2 hours in February to talk to small groups of students at The Elmgreen School about your work - what you love about it and the bits you’d gladly leave behind!
The PPF are running the hugely successful Skills Bureau on Tuesday 7th February. This’ll be the third time and we’re hoping it’ll be even bigger and better than the last two. The PPF Skills Bureau gives all the 13 and 14 year old students (year 9’s) a chance to talk to a diverse group of adults who all earn their living in very different ways. It really helps the students think about where they’re heading career-wise as they choose their GCSE options.
BUT don’t worry - you’d not be speaking to them all at once! The students would meet with you in small groups of 2 or 3 for about 5 minutes or so before they move onto the next adult (who’ll be representing a completely different type of work). It gives students a snapshot of lots of jobs they might never have considered and the confidence to consider new directions.
It’s a great way of breaking down gender stereotypes and ensuring all the students – not just the ones whose parents are well-connected –feel excited and positive about their future.
There are 3 sessions:- a) 8.45-10.45 am b) 10.45-12.45pm c) 1.10-3.10pm. We need people from every type of work - we have a fantastic line up of parents already but it’d be really great to involve more. It’s really worthwhile – it’s guaranteed to make you feel good about helping young people but will only take up 2 hours of your time. Decide to do it today! – Return the slip below or contact 07976 356268 kscrase@the-elmgreen-school.org.uk
