Music Technology

In October the Choice Music Technology group were selected to take part in an anti bullying workshop which was run by Nathan Timothy from the Beat Bullying Charity. Students worked in small groups on different sections of a song, which was then put together to create the final piece, entitled ‘Bullying’s Not the Way’. The whole song was put together and completed in less than a day, and all the students should be proud of what they achieved as a group.
Ben Hur Live
The first indoor chariot race at highspeed; 50 scene changes; the world’s biggest tour arena (almost 2500 sqm); 5 quadrigas; 2 galleys and 9 pirate boats; 46 horses, donkeys and ponies; 100 birds; 1000 different costumes ; more than 4000 props ...
... These statistics come together to make the current global tour of Ben Hur Live – a show which thirty Yr 7 students were lucky enough to go and see on it’s opening night (Thursday 17th September) at London’s O2 Arena.
The story of Ben Hur, a young man born in Jerusalem during the height of the Roman Empire, was first written in 1880 by Lew Wallace. However, most know the story from the epic 1959 film directed by William Wyler, which won 11 Oscars and during which two stunt men lost their lives filming the famous chariot race. It is from this chariot race that the Gifted & Talented History Trip first came about. Students studied the Roman Empire in Year 7 and became “Roving Reporters”; reporting on this very race in a cross curricular project with ICT. Teachers and students not in Yr 7 History lessons were surprised to hear roaring coming from the classrooms as the race was watched upon 7 classroom screens in November 2009. When the History Department saw that the show would be re-enacted live, we jumped at the chance to go.
The show was spectacular, with highlights including a live sea battle, acrobatics and, of course, that famous race. Congratulations must go to the students selected to go on the trip for their hardwork throughout the Yr 7 History course.
