Sports Day 2010

Szabo College wins the 2010 Sports Day - 13.7.2010

We all worked together to win these events and tug of war was the hardest for the Year 9.  The hardest team we tried our best to win against was BESANT. We also had a 100 metre race and the two people that  won were the twins,  Nashae and Nashika.

Szabo College were on form and won or placed in many races, too many to mention. “Overall the sports day was fun, interesting and all about team work” S6

So  as the Szabo College Motto goes: ‘We can succeed we will succeed.’

Basketball News - 16.7.2010

On Tuesday 6 July, The Elmgreen School Basketball Club played a friendly match against Bishop Thomas Grant School (BTG), the former Lambeth League Champions. Not surprisingly, BTG proved to be a very tough opponent for our first game. However, all of our players worked hard and showed immense improvement throughout the game.   Our team, led by captains Abaz and Jacob, showed tough defence and good decision-making on offence.   Joshua was the game’s high scorer.

Congratulations to the Basketball Club, for your hard work at training this season! Anyone who is interested in joining the club next season is welcome to come to this term’s final training session on Tuesday 20 July.

Football News - 6.2.2010

The Year 8 and 9 football teams all put in good performances last week in the Benzie Shield and the Riches Shield Cups against Battersea Park school and The Charter School respectively.

Year 8 Benzie Shield match against Battersea
Battersea School 1 – 3 The Elmgreen School

The year 8 had a very positive start when RD put them ahead with a stunning strike having swept past the opposition’s defence. A lack of concentration towards the end of the first half from The Elmgreen School squad led to an equaliser. After a positive half-time talk and some tweaking of the midfield, the boys put on some magical passing displays which were rewarded by a second goal from RD. Battersea Park School however were not prepared to lose the game without putting up a fight and made some risky changes; they put some sort of pressure on The Elmgreen School but DS, the Man of the Match, was not having any of it. The tenacity and the team spirit of our boys led to a third goal scored by APG. In spite of a very good performance by the whole team, special praise must go to RE who played very well in his debut match.

Year 9 Riches Shield match against The Charter School
Charter 1 – 1 The Elmgreen School

The Year 9 football team put in a very strong performance last Friday against The Charter School at Dulwich Park. AS put The Elmgreen School into the lead early in the first half. The defence were very solid for the majority of the match, and TWF was particularly strong at right back, also pushing forward to create opportunities down the right wing. Man of the Match OO battled superbly in midfield, showing great determination not to let any Charter players pass him. The Elmgreen School worked really well as a team under Jemarle’s captaincy, supporting each other, communicating well and making passes connect. Unfortunately, a lapse in concentration from The Elmgreen School in the last two minutes resulted in Charter scoring to make the end result 1 – 1. Well done The Elmgreen School – let’s have a win next time.

Lambeth Schools Swimming Gala

On Thursday 27 February, The Elmgreen School pupils took the trip to Brixton Rec to compete in the Lambeth schools swimming gala. It is only the second year that the event has taken place and the standard has already risen massively since last year. The Elmgreen School was not only represented fantastically by the pupils who took part but they also put in some fantastic performances to ensure that our school really made its mark!

The Year 7 girls team won four out of the six races in their category. Strong performances from the year 8 girls’ team ensured that the Year 7 and 8 combined girls victory was ours with the Year 7 and 8 boys taking second place. However, despite the older category being a rather difficult one to contest due to us being unable to enter a team in the Year 10/11 age group, the 9, 10 and 11 competition saw our girls take the bronze medal while the boys narrowly missed out by
getting fourth.

Congratulations to all those who took part and thank you for being fantastic Elmgreen ambassadors.
