Over the last couple of years we’ve been privileged to welcome some really big name authors to our school. It was no exception when The Spiderwick Chronicles author Tony DiTerlizzi came to talk to us about his latest book.
DiTerlizzi entertained over 450 students from neighbouring primary schools as well as some of our own students from years 7 and 8. “He was really funny,” said Ella, Year 8 “I think he should be a comedian as well as an author!”
Unusually, DiTerlizzi both writes and illustrates his books. His latest book The Search for WondLa is 500 pages long and at least 100 of those are lavishly illustrated. ‘It’s about what the ten year old Tony wanted and the forty year old Tony can make” he says. “I wanted huge pieces of artwork and little bits of text. It’s a big window into my imagination that just lets you right in”. At the end of the session, the audience went wild as DiTerlizzi offered to give away three limited editions of his books in return for the correct answers to three questions he posed. Unsurprisingly, a sea of hands waved in the air. “It was epic” said Poppy in Year 8.
If you would like to read any of DiTerlizzi’s books please come to the library where we have a copy of The Search for WondLa as well as a complete set of The Spiderwick Chronicle.
