Key Stage Three
At The Elmgreen School we provide students with a curriculum which gives them the knowledge, skills and confidence to face the challenges of the 21st century.
All students have access to the National Curriculum and study a broad range of courses. In addition to English, Maths, Science and Technology, all students study Art, Dance, Drama, Music and a range of Humanities subjects including History and Geography.
The curriculum is structured in such a way as to encourage students to see the links between subject areas and learn common skills in a consistent way. Our approach is an integrated one, where the learning in one subject supports and reinforces the learning in another.
As a Humanities Specialist College we place emphasis on problem solving, independent learning and global awareness. Students study Religious Education and Citizenship encouraging them to become active global citizens. All students will benefit from work related learning and community placement opportunities.
Students study at least one Modern Foreign Language and have the opportunity to learn additional languages through our extensive enrichment programme. The language offer includes French, German and Mandarin. The opportunity to learn community languages is also strongly encouraged.
Physical Education forms a key part of the curriculum – through the use of the school and off site facilities. A broad range of optional subjects are delivered from Year 8 including Spanish and Business Studies.
The 14-19 Curriculum
The 14 –19 curriculum offers a wide range of general and vocational qualifications to cater for the needs of all our students.
All students are required to study a broad range of subjects at Key Stage 4, which means that in addition to the compulsory core of English, Maths and Science, your son or daughter will be able to choose from the arts, design and technology, languages and humanities.
As a Humanities College, we are committed to the majority of students studying a modern foreign language and a humanities subject to GCSE.
We will be offering Post 16 courses before 2012. We have designed a curriculum which focuses on academic progress and achievement to support all students in their aim for university, from the most able to those at an earlier stage of this journey. The majority of students will study either for the AQA Baccalaureate or 4 AS levels, plus an extended project.
Through our collaborations with the SL6 and Lambeth consortia we will also offer access to a range of Diploma and other vocational courses.
All students will be expected to play an active role in the school and local community, with the intended outcome of going on to higher education as well-rounded individuals.
