In the Drama Dept we believe in a curriculum which allows students to take “structured” risks. By developing a positive and safe environment it allows our students to explore a range of topics which are relevant to them and the wider community. We aim for Drama to be colourful and fun whilst developing and exploring drama techniques through a skills and issues based curriculum. We take drama beyond the classroom. Through links with external companies, practitioners and theatres our students where possible have the opportunity to see good practice and experience a professional working environment. Both as an audience member and as a practical participant.
We aim to cultivate students who have developed a confidence in their ability to explore an issue in a highly practical environment. Through the use of different roles we develop the important life skills of empathy, sensitivity and the ability to engage with issues with a deeper level of perspective and understanding. Language and communication skills are paramount to what we do, as a dept we utilise the rich cultural diversity of our students. Students are encouraged and supported to take their learning and experiences beyond the classroom into society.
