Congratulations to Melissa, Year 8 who has achieved her goal of reading 50 books this term. She started reading on the 22 September and by the 18 November had completed her challenge and was tucking into the reward she gave herself – a packet of Haribos!
What inspired you to read 50 books by Christmas?
It started as a challenge from my friends. First it was going to be 100 books. But then I realised I would never go to bed if I read that much! So I changed it to 50.
What is your favourite genre?
At the beginning I would have said romance. Now I would say adventures and thrillers, books that are a bit scary. I’ve definitely discovered new genres through the challenge. At first I would just automatically pick up Jacqueline Wilson or Cathy Cassidy. Then I became more adventurous.
Your best book?
Definitely Darke Academy by Gabriella Poole. It’s full of hidden secrets, deceit and mystery. The end is so unexpected!
And your worst?
I don’t really have a worst book. But I did go off Jacqueline Wilson – I think I just read too much of hers! I prefer Jean Ure now. I can relate to her characters better.
When do you do most of your reading?
I do a bit in PLS but mainly it’s at home after school and before bed.
Do you have time to do anything else?!
Yes! I still watch TV, do homework and talk to my friends. It’s about being organised!
Are you surprised you met your target early?
Yes, I was. I had to buy my Haribos early!
What next?
I’m going to find the best book ever. Keep lists of everything I read. And write more reviews for the library!
