The Elmgreen School is located in a new school building on Elmcourt Road. The school is housed on three floors and has been designed by award winning architects Scott Brownrigg and Adjaye Associates. The construction is by Carillion. The building has been designed to support the school’s distinctive ethos and vision. It is an extremely light and welcoming place in which to work and learn. The building has stunning vistas across the site and at all times students can see and be seen, making our large school both warm and friendly.
The main building functions around a ground floor market square design, which is a breathtaking, contemporary take on the medieval community space. The market square houses a wonderful amphitheatre, which leads into a large performance space, linked to state of the art recording and lighting facilities.
The school has a family partnership room, with ICT facilities for parents and carers, together with a wide range of sporting facilities for out of hours community use, including a spacious dance and activities studio.
External Spaces
The play areas are green and varied, with quiet social spaces, terraced seating and multi-use games pitches. Sustainability has been a key feature in our design of the school. All areas of the building are fully accessible to students or families with disabilities.
Outstanding Learning Facilities
The building, a secure and safe place, offers our students a stimulating learning environment with the benefit of the latest technology. As a Humanities College a great emphasis is placed on reading and literacy. The library is at the heart of the school and the building, offering wonderful facilities to staff and students for both teaching and learning. In all curriculum areas, the classrooms have lecture and breakout spaces providing excellent opportunities for independent learning.
The Design Technology facilities offer opportunities for the full range of traditional disciplines together with graphics, electronics and systems control. The music suite, in addition to excellent classroom facilities, has practice and ensemble rooms and a well appointed recording studio. The second floor houses large, well positioned art rooms and science laboratories with display areas. Environmental Science and habitat gardens, with wind turbines, solar panels and greywater harvesting, offer rare learning opportunities.
The site also includes a floodlit 7 a-side football pitch with a stepped dining terrace overlooking the sports pitch for spectators. In addition, there is a 4 court Sports Hall tailored to Sports England specifications.
